The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act (as amended). The public entity aims to facilitate the skills development needs of the Wholesale and Retail (W&R) sector through the implementation of learning programmes, disbursement of grants and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS). The aim of these consultations is to engage with the Wholesale and Retail Sector’s role players and identify skills demand and supply, which will assist the W&RSETA to align its funding to the sector’s needs. The W&RSETA invites Small (employing less than 50 people) and Medium Levy Paying companies (with between 50 and 149 employees) operating in the Wholesale and Retail Sector to apply for the Discretionary Fund. The funding is aimed at supporting small companies to facilitate training for their employees and meeting the NSDS III Goal to address the skills gaps as identified in the Sector Skills Plan in both the scarce and critical skills lists. Registered Fuel Retailers are encouraged to apply as there will be no separate project to cater for this sub-sector. The W&RSETA participates in the National Projects to improve research capacity within different sectors to enable Effective Skills Planning pertaining to demand and supply. This initiative aims to inform the development of skills strategies and policies for those institutions responsible for skills development such as SETAs.
